At first glance, this may look like an unreliable machine because of the low price and the light weight. But bear in mind that the treadmill is light weight by design. It was meant to be light and portable. That’s why it can only support a top user weight of up to 250 pounds.
The amazing thing about this machine is that it becomes extremely compact when folded – just 10 inches in height. It can be stored in a vertical or a horizontal manner.
The motor is only a 1.5 chp motor, but considering that the top speed is just 6mph, the motor should not encounter any major issues. One advantage of having a small motor is that the treadmill is surprising quiet when in use.
Most home treadmills weight over 200 pounds. So even when folded, moving the machine is extremely cumbersome (and almost impossible if you have a small frame). The Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill weighs an amazing 99 pounds. That’s half the weight of the normal home treadmill!
At $599, this treadmill comes with MP3 capabilities with built-in speakers. It also has a heart rate monitor that is measured by placing your thumb on a sensor that’s located on the handles. However, the audio quality is just decent. Your home audio will probably sound much better. Also, some customers have been complaining about the heart rate monitor being pretty much useless. But these are not essential features and for the low price, some customers are willing to overlook these cons.
This ultra compact treadmill is ideal for the lay person. The average person doesn’t need to run up to 10 mph. In fact, most users just run at speeds that hover around 5 to 6 mph – that’s the top speed of the Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill. For beginners looking to start off with a fast walk, this machine is perfect. A walking speed of around 3 mph will do wonders for your health. Anything more than 4 mph will require you to break into a slow jog.
For those living in a small apartment, this is a great machine. It can be folded and stored under the bed (unless your bed has less than 10 inches underneath). Despite the machine just weighing 100 pounds, users have found it cumbersome to move the machine from room to room. The width of the machine makes it hard to maneuver around doorways. So just try to store it in the same room after use – e.g. kitchen or bedroom.
And don’t forget to purchase a treadmill pad along with your treadmill. A pad will cost you around $45. Place the pad beneath your treadmill. Avoid placing carpet underneath the machine as this will give rise to a screeching sound.
The warranty is reasonable, with 1 year for parts and labor. Don’t expect the machine to last over 10 years though. If you want something more durable, there are other models that you can go for.
All in all, a good buy. Customers at Amazon mostly gave it a 4 to 5 (out of 5) star rating.
